Trial Judgment to be Pronounced in Ranko Babić et al.

On 16 November 2021, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina will pronounce a trial judgment in the case of Ranko Babić et al. Judgment announcement has been scheduled for 1 p.m. in Courtroom 4.

The Indictment charges the accused Ranko Babić, Bratislav Bilbija and Đuro Adamović with the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172(1)h), as read with Subparagraphs a), f), i) and k), all in conjunction with Article 180(1) and Article 29 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

 

The Indictment, inter alia, alleges that between 30 April 1992 and late August 1992, in the framework of a widespread and systematic attack by the army, police and paramilitary units of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, subsequently Republika Srpska, on the non-Serb civilian population in the Prijedor municipality, knowing of the attack, Ranko Babić in his capacity as I-class Captain at the Ljubija Battalion, Bratislav Bilbija in his capacity as Lieutenant, and Đuro Adamović as Sergeant in the army of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, subsequently Republika Srpska, participated, aided and abetted and instigated the persecution of non-Serb civilian population of the settlements of Brdo, Hambarine, Rakovčani and Ljeskare, and the Bukvik hamlets in the Prijedor municipality, on religious, national and ethnic grounds, during which an attack was launched against the civilian population in the village of Ljeskare and hamlet of Bukvik and the surrounding areas, by killing, torture, enforced disappearance and infliction of great suffering and injuries to bodily integrity and other inhumane acts of similar nature, committed with the intent to inflict great suffering, serious physical and mental injuries and violation of health.
