Trial judgment pronounced in Duško Suvara case

On 27 May 2022 the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered and publicly pronounced a Trial Judgment in the case of Duško Suvara, finding the accused Duško Suvara guilty of the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 142(1) of the Criminal Code of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia, under Count 1 – rape, and Count 2 – inhumane treatment and rape. The Court sentenced him to six (6) years of imprisonment.

The accused Duško Suvara has been found guilty that during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the armed conflict between the Croat Defense Council and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the one side, and the Army of Republika Srpska on the other, during 1992, in the territory of Glamoč municipality, in his capacity as a member of the Republika Srpska Army, he acted in violation of Article 3(1), Subparagraphs a) and c), of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 12 August 1949, by inflicting heavy bodily and mental pain and suffering and inhumane treatment, and by forcing another person to sexual intercourse by the use force or threat of force, whereby he committed the offense he has been sentenced for.
