Accused Borislav Gligorević sentenced to 10 years in prison

On 21 February 2025 the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered a Trial Judgment in the criminal case against the accused Borislav Gligorević, finding the accused Borislav Gligorević guilty of the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172(1)g) CCBiH, as read with Article 180(1) CCBiH.

 

The Court sentenced the accused to 10 years of imprisonment, to which it shall credit the time he spent in pre-trial custody, from 26 May 2023 onwards.

 

The accused Borislav Gligorević was found guilty that, between April and late July 1992, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the widespread and systematic attack launched by the Zvornik Municipality Territorial Defense, subsequently the Army of Republika Srpska, police and Serb paramilitary formations, in the territory of Zvornik municipality, targeting the Bosniak civilian population in that territory, knowing of the attack and that his acts form a part thereof, in his capacity as a member of the White Eagles (Bijeli orlovi) unit of the Zvornik Municipality Territorial Defense, he acted in violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, and in breach of the Geneva Conventions, in the manner that on a still unspecified day between 25 May 1992 and 2 June 1992, during which period the Bijeli orlovi members held some 400 civilians unlawfully detained inside the houses of Đ. and I. S. in the village of Liplje, Zvornik municipality, he repeatedly committed rape against other female civilians by the use of force or threat of force.
