Indictment Confirmed in the Case of Andrija Bjelošević

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed, on 14 July 2022, an indictment of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina of 29 June 2022 charging the accused Andrija Bjelošević with the criminal offense of War Crimes against the civilian Population under Article 142(1) of the Criminal Code of the Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia.

The indictment, inter alia, alleges that during the period between the second half of May 1992 and late June 1993, in Derventa, and during the war and armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina between the Army of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, subsequently Republika Srpska, and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the accused Andrija Bjelošević, in the capacity of the Chief of the Security Services Center Doboj, Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska (MUP), a member of the Staff of the MUP of Republika Srpska for management and command over the overall MUP forces and a member of the War Staff within the Crisis Staff of the “Serb Municipality Doboj”, acted in contravention of the rules of international humanitarian law, violating the provisions of the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in time of War, at least on four occasions, enforced a civilian, by use of force and threat of direct attack on his life and body, into a sexual intercourse (rape).
