Suspect Kostadin Balaban released from custody

Ruling on the Motion filed by the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina to terminate custody of suspect Kostadin Balaban (the case of Veljko Ugrenović et al.), on 5 January 2022 the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a Decision granting the Prosecutor’s Motion and terminated custody of the suspect Kostadin Balaban, initially ordered by Court of BiH Decision on 10 December 2021.

Also, the following prohibitive measures are now imposed on the suspect: travel ban under Article 126(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CPC BiH) – the suspect is prohibited from traveling outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina; for the purpose of executing the ban his valid travel documents shall be seized and no new ones issued, and he is also banned from crossing the state border with the use of his ID; obligation of periodical reporting to the state authority referred to in Article 126.a(1)d) CPC BiH – he has been ordered to report once a week to the relevant police station of PS Gradiška.

 

The imposed prohibitive measures may last for as long as necessary, while their justifiability shall be checked on a bimonthly basis. The suspect has been warned that he may be remanded if he breaches the obligations set forth in the imposed prohibitive measures.

 

Veljko Ugrenović et al. are suspected of the criminal offense of Organized Crime under Article 250(2) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CC BiH) as read with the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs under Article 195(1) CC BiH, the criminal offense of Illicit Trafficking in Arms and Military Equipment and Products of Dual Use under Article 193(1) CC BiH, the criminal offense of Smuggling of People under Article 189 CC BiH and the criminal offense of Aggravated Theft under Article 226(2) of the Criminal Code of Republika Srpska (CC RS).
