Custody terminated for Krešo Lučić

Today, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an order pursuant to which the Accused Krešo Lučić is to be released from custody.

Today, acting upon a motion filed by the Accused, the Court rendered a decision determining that custody will be terminated (in accordance with the restrictive measures described below) if bail in the amount of not less than KM 200,000.00 is provided in the form of a monetary deposit or real estate securities supported by adequate evidence.  According to this decision, before his release from custody, the Accused is also obliged to submit to the Court all valid travel documents issued by Bosnia and Herzegovina and any other country.  The Accused is ordered not to leave the town of Široki Brijeg, or to change his place of residence without the prior consent of the Court.  The decision also requires the Accused to report to the Široki Brijeg Police Department on a daily basis. 

Following the submission of evidence of sufficient real estate securities by the Defence, and surrender by the Accused of the documents referred to in the above decision, the Court issued an order for the Accused’s release from custody.

The Court ordered custody to the Accused on 27. April 2006.  The indictment, which was confirmed on 26 October 2006, alleges that, during attacks aimed at the Bosniak civilian population in the municipalities of Kreševo, Kiseljak, Busovača and Vitez, Krešo Lučić, in the capacity of a commander of the Military police of the Croatian Defence Council in Kreševo, inter alia, took part in the imprisonment and torture of civilians.
