Custody terminated for Aziz Dizdarević

Today, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina rendered a decision terminating custody for Aziz Dizdarević. The Court accepted a defence motion for termination of custody, having found that that circumstances on the basis of which custody was extended have ceased to exist. The Trial Panel concluded that custody is no longer necessary for prevention of influence on witnesses.

The Panel concluded that other, more lenient restrictive measures were not required to ensure the presence of the Accused and the successful conduct of the criminal proceedings.  The remaining Accused in this case are not in custody.

The main trial in this case commenced on 9 January 2007 and currently the Prosecutor is presenting his evidence.  The indictment charges:

  • Aziz Dizdarević, Mevludin Tursunović and Dragutin Jovičić with the criminal offence of Smuggling of persons, and
  • Begajet Hasić with the criminal offence of Extortion.
