First instance verdict in the case of Husmir Čović confirmed

On 30 March 2007, the Appellate Panel of Section II for Organised Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption rendered the final verdict in the case of Husmir Čović. The Appellate Panel refused the appeals filed by the Prosecutor's Office and Husmir Čović and confirmed the Trial Panel’s verdict. The Trial Panel had found Husmir Čović guilty of the criminal offence of Smuggling of persons and sentenced him to two years and six months imprisonment.

Based on a prior agreement with Fadil Čović, on 22 October 2005, Husmir Čović attempted to illegally transfer four Albanian citizens from BiH to Croatia.   

Husmir Čović was acquitted of the charge of agreeing, with persons known to him, to organise arrival and accommodation of foreign citizens who did not meet the requirements for legal stay in BiH, with the aim of transferring those persons from BiH to Croatia.  The Accused was therefore acquitted of Associating for the purpose of perpetrating a criminal offence.
