Appeals Judgment pronounced in Radovan Veljović case

On 30 March 2023 the Appellate Division Panel of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina delivered a second-instance judgment in the case of Radovan Veljović, dismissing as ill-founded the appeals filed by defense counsel for the accused Radovan Veljović and by the BiH Prosecutor's Office, while upholding the Judgment of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina No. S1 1 K 041154 21 Kri of 18 November 2022.

The Trial Judgment found the accused Radovan Veljović guilty of the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity under Article 172(1)g), as read with Article 180(1), of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Court sentenced him to 7 (seven) years of imprisonment.

The accused was found guilty that between early April 1992 and late July 1992, in the framework of a widespread and systematic attack launched by military, para-military and police forces of the Serb Republic of BiH, subsequently Republika Srpska, targeting the Bosniak civilian population of the Foča municipality, knowing of the attack and that his acts made up a part of such attack, as a member of those forces he committed an act of rape by the use of threat and force. 

No appeal lies from this Judgment.
