The First Instance Judgment in Stojan Petrović to be Pronounced

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina will announce the first instance judgment in the case of Stojan Petrović on Wednesday, 20 December 2023, at 09:00 hrs in courtroom 9.

The confirmed indictment of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office charges the accused Stojan Petrović with the criminal offense of Crimes against Humanity in violation of Article 172(1) h), in conjunction with sub-paragraph g) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, all as read with Article 180(1) of the same Code.

The indictment alleges that, during the April-December 1992 period, in the territory of Brčko municipality, within a widespread and systematic attack launched by parts of the Yugoslav National Army, military, paramilitary and police forces of the Serb Republic of BiH, subsequently the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska, against the Bosniak and other non-Serb population of the municipality, being aware of such attack, and knowing that his acts formed part of the attack, in the capacity of an authorized official person, member-police officer of the Intervention Platoon of the MUP RS, Public Security Station Brčko, the accused committed persecution of the Bosniak civilian population of Brčko on political, national, ethnic and religious ground universally accepted as inadmissible pursuant to international law, wherein Stojan Petrović compelled other person into sexual intercourse (rape) by use of force and threat with a direct assault on her life and body.
