At a plea hearing held today before a Preliminary Hearing Judge of Section I for War Crimes of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ranko Vuković pleaded not guilty.

A plea hearing for Rajko Vuković has been postponed for 17 September 2007 (starting at 11.00am in courtroom 4) because he failed to appear before the Court.  The Court was informed that he started hunger strike on 10 September 2007.  Ranko and Rajko Vuković are charged with Crimes against humanity.

The indictment inter alia alleges that, taking part in a widespread and systematic attack of the military, paramilitary and police forces of the so-called Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina aimed at the Bosniak civilian population of the Foča Municipality, Ranko and Rajko Vuković, together with two other individuals, killed a Bosniak civilian in the village Podkolun towards the end of May 1992.  The indictment alleges that the Accused then left the village and killed another Bosniak civilian in a field near the road.
