Accused in the Enes Handžić and Another Case pleaded not guilty

At today’s hearing before a Preliminary Hearing Judge of Section I for War crimes of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the accused Enes Handžić and Senad Dautović pleaded not guilty to all counts of the indictment. Enes Handžić and Senad Dautović are charged with War Crimes against Civilians, War Crimes against the Wounded and Sick, and War Crimes against Prisoners of War.

The indictment alleges that during the period from 18 July 1993 to 19 March 1994 the accused persons participated in planning, aiding and abetting, preparing, capturing and unlawfully detaining the Croat civilians. Enes Handžić was the Assistant Commander for security in the 307th Brigade of the B-H Army, while Senad Dautović was the Commander of the Joint Staff of the B-H Army for Bugojno. The indictment alleges that the captured civilians were kept in locked and uninhabitable premises in the settlement of Donjići in the Bugojno Municipality and in other buildings in Bugojno, where they were tortured, killed and inhumanely and brutally treated. The accused Handžić and Dautović, being superiors and responsible persons, failed to take any actions to prevent the criminal offences and punish the perpetrators thereof.
