Today, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina rendered the first instance verdict in the Section I for War Crimes case of Goran and Zoran Damjanović, finding the Accused guilty of War crimes against civilians. The Court also found Goran Damjanović guilty of Illegal manufacturing and trade of weapons or explosive materials. Goran Damjanović was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, while Zoran Damjanović was sentenced to 10 years and six months imprisonment.

The Trial Panel found that on 2 June 1992, in the area of Bojnik in Sarajevo, Goran and Zoran Damjanović, as members of the Army of the Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, armed with rifles and in military uniforms, together with other soldiers participated in the beating of a group of between 20 and 30 male Bosniak prisoners.  Some of the prisoners had already been wounded after their capture the same day by Serb military forces at the settlement of Ahatovići.  The beating lasted over a period of between one and three hours with the use of rifles, batons, bottles, kicks and punches, resulting in the victims' severe physical and mental pain and suffering.  The motivation for the beating, according to the Trial Panel's verdict, was to punish the prisoners for putting up resistance against an attack on Ahatovići as well as the fact that victims were Bosniaks.

The Trial Panel’s verdict further states that, on 26 April 2006 Goran Damjanović illegally kept a large quantity of fire arms and ammunition in his family house there by committing a criminal offence of Illegal manufacturing and trade of weapons or explosive materials.

The time Goran Damjanović (from 26 April 2006 to 18 January 2007) and Zoran Damjanović (from 26 April to 22 June 2006) spent in custody will count towards his sentence.
