Zoran Janković found not guilty

Today, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) rendered the first instance verdict in the Section I for War Crimes case of Zoran Janković, finding him not guilty of Crimes against humanity.

The Trial Panel acquitted Zoran Janković on all counts in the indictment.  The indictment alleges that on 29 April 1992, the Accused, together with the commander of the Artillery Unit in Osmaci of the Army of the so-called Serb Republic of BiH and members of paramilitary formations, captured a group of Bosniak civilians and escorted them to Rašidov Han in Snagovo ( Zvornik Municipality ).  According to the indictment, the Accused participated in the killing of 36 and wounding of three civilians from this group and participating in setting dead victims’ bodies on fire in order to conceal evidence of the crime.

 

Zoran Janković was also acquitted of participating in the forced removal of captured civilians following an attack on the Šeher and Like villages (Kalesija Municipality) on 27 May 1992. 

 

The Court rendered a decision terminating restrictive measures imposed on the Accused in accordance with the decision dated 29 November 2006.
